The magical island of Alonissos is the most eastern of the Sporades Islands, and the combination of its blue crystal waters and stunning scenery make it an island that is ideal for visiting throughout the year. Its beaches, churches and traditional houses rival those depicted in the film ‘Mamma Mia’, which is set on the neighbouring island of Skopelos. Anyone wishing for a holiday setting as featured in ‘Mamma Mia’ should seriously consider the island of Alonissos, with its village architecture and turquoise inlets. The island of Skopelos, which in the film ‘Mamma Mia’ is named ‘Kalokairi’ (meaning ‘summer’) is only 15 minutes away from Alonissos by hydrofoil. A holiday on Alonissos could provide the added advantage of a ‘Mamma Mia’ style background without any of the overcrowding to be expected on Skopelos this summer. ‘Astrofegia Restaurant and Bar’ is situated on one of the twin hill-tops that comprise the Old Village of Alonissos. The restaurant, which we operate from May through to October, can be reached along a narrow and picturesque path that starts on the left hand side at the bus stop. The path leads to the restaurant’s courtyard, which is surrounded by stone walls and covered with a pergola. |
Small hanging baskets provide discreet lighting, and should you visit in later summer, large juicy bunches of grapes dangle over every table. The restaurant’s seating extends beyond into a charming garden, at the top of which stunning views are to be seen, taking in the nearby islands of Evia and Skyros, as well as Pelion and occasionally Mount Olympus. The ‘Astrofegia Restaurant’ also offers the opportunity to organise special events and gatherings in the restaurant. Greek wedding feasts as featured in the film ‘Mamma Mia’ may be organised, as well as other social and business functions. ‘Astrofegia’ can be booked for events seating a maximum of 80 persons.
